The Colours of Autumn at T.I.S The decorations on school window and the inspiring outdoors This school year (2020-2021) our Eco Schools team is focusing on the following topics: We have combined the  Biodiversity and Nature    with the  School Grounds   . Carrying on from last spring when we learned to identify some of the most common plants in the school yard, we focused on Estonian trees with 3rd Grade and have collected leaves and fruits of different tree species from the school yard and from Toome Hill. With 4th Grade we have studied the soil fauna in our school garden (the earthworms), and further we have visited The Ecological Garden in Tartu, and set up an experiment to study how well do the radish seeds germinate and grow in two different soils – a soil from our own school garden and a soil brought from Florence, Italy by a family of one of our students. Tartu International School joined the Eco-Schools program

  Participating in Eco-Schools Program Our school started participating in Eco-Schools program in February 2020. The big idea is that we can all help the environment by taking local actions, step-by-step. And the care for one’s surroundings provides everybody a safer, more supportive environment. Not only physically but also mentally. Overview of the program:  https://www.ecoschools.global/how-does-it-work The big everyday work in the program will be done by our school’s Environmental Committee, with at least half of the members being students. So students really have a voice here! To make the change happen, we follow the 7-step methodology used in the programme: The first meeting with students interested in Eco Schools program was held at 6th of March 2020. The meeting was mainly for getting to know each other and discuss ideas on how to carry out the environmental review. The meeting was led by 8th grade student Uliana, summary found  here .
