Tartu International School joined the Eco-Schools program

Participating in Eco-Schools Program

Our school started participating in Eco-Schools program in February 2020. The big idea is that we can all help the environment by taking local actions, step-by-step. And the care for one’s surroundings provides everybody a safer, more supportive environment. Not only physically but also mentally.

Overview of the program: https://www.ecoschools.global/how-does-it-work

The big everyday work in the program will be done by our school’s Environmental Committee, with at least half of the members being students. So students really have a voice here!

To make the change happen, we follow the 7-step methodology used in the programme:

The first meeting with students interested in Eco Schools program was held at 6th of March 2020. The meeting was mainly for getting to know each other and discuss ideas on how to carry out the environmental review. The meeting was led by 8th grade student Uliana, summary found here.

Next, Uliana (who made a Creative Project on waste management), and Science Teacher Jaak-Albert composed a questionnaire to map the environment related issues and ideas and to identify the key topics to work on. The results of the questionnaire are here.
