Student habits helping the planet

How the small things can make a difference

Today in Grade 6 Science lesson we talked about the little yet so important things all students and their families can do to keep the planet healthy and clean. Below you see the good ideas and examples of students.

  • Whenever I am with my mom I walk to school because our house is very close. We use wooden straws. We also collect bottles and put them in the recycle bin. Sometimes when I see trash on the ground I throw it away in the trash bin.
  • Me and my family go every year 4 times in the forest and clean  the part that belongs to us. Most of the time my grandpa and my and my cousins also help.
  • Me and my family collect bottles and every year we recycle them and then we get money back. And we also put BIOwaste in sink food crusher. It works like that you put BIOwaste and it chops it to pieces. And everyday I come to school on a scooter. And everyday I come to school on a scooter.
  • I don't really do this kind of stuff like I don't really go out to plant a garden or something but I do usually turn off the lights when I go out and we also vacuum the house so we don't get dust in or we also walk in the park every weekend.
  • My family and I usually sort trash and bottles.  We go on a lot of hikes and in winters we go skiing. We try not to waste a lot of electricity. In the morning we try to walk or use bikes. We use paper bags but if we get any plastic bags we don't throw it in the trash but we use it every time till it breaks.
  • If we take out the trash and there is no big trash can, we don't put it on the ground or just throw it anywhere. we go to another dump regardless of how far it is🌷
  • If we see garbage on the ground, then we can pick it up and throw it away, BUT NOT BECAUSE: it can be contagious and if we see that it is "contagious" we don't pick it up🍄
  • When we walk in the park and decide to buy a cocktail, for example, and we have an empty glass after that, we don't throw it on the ground or leave it somewhere in sheltered places. We go and if we see a garbage can on the way, only then will we throw it out, if it is very full or there is none at all, then we go home and throw it away at home🌿
  • My family refunds our bottles, it's good for the planet and we even get some money back! If our clothes don't fit ourselves anymore we always offer our clothes to our neighbours.
  • One thing me and my family do that is good for the planet is that we never take the car we always walk to school and if we can't (when it is to much snow for example) we take the bus instead of the car.
  • Another thing we do is that we always put paper by itself, plastic by itself and glass by itself.
  • When we eat and have food left we dont throw it away instead we save it in the fridge to make food another day.
  • If possible, my family uses public transportation instead of cars, but if possible we walk. For example in Norway when me and my dad went to the airport by train.
